Outcome 50+ computers built and sold — sourcing, budgeting, assembly, marketing, and after-sale support all run solo, on infrastructure I host myself.

Halcyon Systems — PC Building Business

Halcyon Systems is my computer building and repair business in Edmonton. It started with building PCs for friends and family and has grown into a real business — with its own storefront, brand, and a philosophy I actually believe in.

The idea

New PC parts have gotten absurd — flagship GPUs, SSDs, and RAM are up 200–300% over five years. Meanwhile, perfectly viable older hardware gets discarded because buying second-hand is scary: parts that might not work, sketchy meetups, endless negotiation.

Halcyon positions itself as the fix: quality-tested refurbished and new parts, built into clean machines, backed by warranty. Think of it as thrifting for computers — one of the most sustainable things you can do with electronics, without the second-hand gamble. Parts stay out of landfills; customers get real gaming performance at a fraction of new prices.

By the numbers

The brand

Everything you see from Halcyon, I made: the name, the green visual identity, the product photography (see the gallery below), and the Instagram content — build videos, a keyboard restoration series, and a “what can you get for $800” series showing exactly what refurbished-part builds deliver. This one makes the sustainability pitch in under a minute:

The infrastructure

The business runs on infrastructure I own: the storefront is migrating from Shopify to a self-hosted WooCommerce store on my home server, with self-hosted booking replacing calendar links and Helcim handling payments — cutting the monthly platform fees to zero.

Where it’s going

Beyond builds and repairs: home IT services, audio setups, server builds, and smart home configuration — the goal is to be the person people call when they want technology to just work.
