Corvette C4 Revival

June 2025

AutomotiveAudioMechanicalHands-On

Outcome Rebuilt the full audio system, replaced the complete power steering system, and refinished the interior — all by hand, on a 40-year-old car.

Corvette C4 Revival

I bought this car for one reason: to learn. It has since taught me more about mechanical work, design, and finishing a project than any course.

I even shot and edited an ad for it — because when you’re proud of a car, you make it a commercial:

The audio system

The original audio was long dead, so I redesigned the whole system from the ground up: a new head unit, an Alpine amplifier, new speakers, and a subwoofer in a custom enclosure — all wired, fused, and mounted myself in the rear compartment.

The power steering

The complete power steering system needed replacing — pump, hoses, and hardware, done by hand. On a C4 everything is packed tight, so half the job is figuring out the order of operations that gets your wrench where it needs to be.

The interior

Refinished and cleaned up the 40-year-old cabin — new head unit, an added tachometer, and my own touches where the original materials had given up. Each stage is in the gallery below.

What it taught me

Working on a real car means every design decision has to survive contact with rust, tight clearances, and parts that don’t match the manual. It’s the best bridge I’ve found between engineering on paper and engineering in practice.
